Fallacy [Roy/Riza]
Title: Fallacy
Pairing: Roy/Riza...sort of
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood)
Genre: General
Rating: PG
Word Count: 107

A/N: This was a thought that crossed my mind during Roy's final battle with Envy.

Fallacy

Loyalty was like a poison, a slow kill festering. Eventually, it will manifest in a riot and demand for due restitution. Sometimes—assuming luck held out—the feeling will die naturally, and there won’t be a nasty confrontation waiting at the end.

But she’d never been the lucky type (didn’t believe in it). For her, Riza understood perfectly, this allegiance will be forever. It was in the blood. And so, when he made her promise to watch his back (stab, stab) she agreed.

Riza would be there for him always—especially this.

Steady, she opened the door. He was waiting.

“Sir.”

Führer.

She cocked the gun.

Oh, wow. This is a dark look at a possible future. Now I want the backstory leading up to this scene.

Maybe it's just me but I can totally see Roy falling prey to "power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely." Even though his intentions are certainly good, he's also stubborn and seems like someone who will achieve his goals through ruthless measures. I think that's what I find so fascinating about him. I so wish Arakawa would make a one-shot focusing on Mustang's rise to power.

(Wow, that was rambly.)

I could see that happening. Now that you mention it, I could see him trying to keep his staff near him because they do humanize him. It might be part of the reason why Maes' murder hit him so hard, that Maes was more or less his conscience, who'd say, "You're getting out of line, here, Roy."

I completely agree. I think Maes being his conscience (who obviously wouldn't want him to act on pure revenge) is what made that scene with Envy so ironic.

It's a very shuddersome idea, though, that Envy's death/suicide could lead to something far worse for Roy.

Of course, dark fanfic is always fun.

what an interesting and dark look at the future. Certainly gaining the most powerful position in the country could twist Roy into something he really doesn't want to be.
